With 3D lasered tools from SIMTEK, a laser introduces the chip forming geometry into the tool cutting edge. This creates an optimum rake angle that effectively forms, guides or breaks the chips - depending on what the customer's individual machining scenario requires.
In addition, SIMTEK's laser technology enables, among other things, the introduction of circumferential chip forming geometries with a constant rake and clearance angle.
This opens up completely new possibilities: Form grooving tools with a high forming depth or multidirectional machining combination tools (e.g. grooving and longitudinal turning, “Parisian grinding”) can now be used reliably and economically. But even under difficult conditions, such as high cutting speeds, small diameters or high heat input, lasered chip forming geometries offer significant advantages.
